New Leaf is an important sculpture for me bacause of the events that were taking place while I was making it. Works of art are often life journal entries reflecting ones life. It is possible for artists to look back at older pieces and recall the events that were taking place at the time the artwork was being made. The reason for this, I believe, is that the artist often times puts an emotional intention into the process of making the art. Just as a familiar odor can trigger old memories, so seeing a work of art again can trigger the journal entries memories of the artist. Whether or not another person veiewing the same art can pick up on the emotional energy is certainly a question of grand proportions. Personally, I believe it is possible for a sensitive viewer to feel the intention contained within an object.
